Overview:

There are several ways to capture live video with TouchDesigner and the Video Device In TOP is the most common. You can work with everything from webcams to broadcast cards.

The Video Device In TOP also works with other applications that publish a video stream locally on your computer. OBS, Notch, Snap Cam and other tools provide video feeds from their applications which the Video Device In TOP recognizes as virtual sources.

The NDI In TOP, the Syphon Spout In TOP (macOS and Windows), the Video Stream In TOP and WebRTC are other ways to receive live video in TouchDesigner. These protocols allow for fast transmission of video both locally (on the same machine) and over the network.
